See? No offense, Eagles or Terriers, but the Beanpot needn't always be all about the BC/BU matchup. Happy birthday, Bruins! Boston's ice men are feeling happy and in the celebratory spirit this week. Tyler Seguin celebrated his 19th birthday on Monday with practice in Wilmington and a flight to Raleigh, N.C., with the rest of his team, which takes on the Eric Staal and the Carolina Hurricanes tonight. And when you settle into your favorite armchair or couch to watch the game, we hope you pour yourself a glass of red wine and toast the team's elder statesman, Mark Recchi, who turns 43 today. Yes, that's right: He's the age of Seguin and David Krejci combined ... and outplays them on a regular basis. Just sayin'. Here's to you, Rex. more ›

If there's one thing that the Boston sports fan knows well, it's a comeback. We'll happily talk all about the 2004 ALCS, the bounce back from Celtics' disastrous 2006-2007 season to 2007-2008 championship glory, or the way the Bruins turned around a skid last season to coming within one goal of a spot in the Eastern Conference finals. And, well, we'll just ignore the other comeback that comes to mind when we think of last Bruins season. more ›

Globe: How 'Bout Them Bruins? Do you remember the Bruins? Do you want to? Yes. And, don't ask. Well, the Globe is keeping them alive in all of their choking glory. Two examples: B's fans can be heard on the topic of free agents. Who stays/Who goes? Also, compare the starting lineups from the regular season opener to the starting lineups from the playoff finale. Surprisingly similar to us. These features enable puck people to envision what the 2010-2011 roster might look like. Expect a minimum of one new forward who has to have more points than Phil Kessel. more ›

After the Bruins season ended, Andy Brickley described the Bruins baffling loss with three words: "No Way" and "Unbelievable". Maybe he was surprised by an historic 4-3 collapse put forth by the Boston Bruins. He shouldn't have been. If game seven looked familiar to you, you're not alone. Bostonist noticed, too. It appeared strikingly similar to the entire series we've been driven crazy by/secretly enjoyed. Honestly, the maddening inconsistency the team displayed during the regular season was on display last night, too. The Bruins put the Flyers in a 3-0 chokehold before dropping three consecutive games to force an unexpected seventh game. Boston led 3-0 in game 7 before Philadelphia tied the score at 3-3. more ›

Bostonist's Friday Redux was correct in calling last night in Boston sports a "wild" night, and we won't even get into Comcast crapping out just in time for the Bruins to skate against Buffalo. We'll go from good to bad to the craziness that is Bill Belichick on draft night. Paul Pierce wanted the ball, got the ball, made the winning shot, and the Celtics beat the Heat, 100-98, to take an overwhelming 3-0 lead in their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series on Friday. Pierce led Boston with 32 points, including the 21-footer that gave Miami a glimpse of the truth of their playoff future, especially if Dwyane Wade (34 points) is actually hurt. more ›

Doc Rivers seemed to explain quite clearly why the Celtics beat Houston 94-87 last night. Defense this, rebound that, shooting blah blah, Paul, Rondo, etc. When asked a big picture question focused on how the team's third straight win, not to mention a trip-opening decision, fits into making this season a success, Doc basically redacted all the good stuff and said, well, nevermind. "Nothing means nothing," Doc said. Okay, we're really not sure what he meant by that. It sounded catchy, though. Paul Pierce was the difference for the Green when it mattered with 15 of his game-high 26 points in the fourth quarter. Ray Allen finished with 19 points on a 5-8 effort on three-pointers, and six assists. Kevin Garnett had 15 points and eight rebounds. more ›

After three straight losses, not to mention the quirky Friday thing, the Celtics would probably have taken a win anyway they could get one. So, Friday's 98-95 OT win over the Portland Trail Blazers, which is noteworthy, in part, because it marked Kevin Garnett's return to action, is one the Green will gladly take. KG's return certainly makes Boston a better team even with his pedestrian 13 points and four rebounds. He brings intensity and attitude, and also fills out the roster. Please note the performance of Rasheed Wallace (12 points, 6 rebounds) coming off the bench. The most noteworthy part of the game was the thrilling end. Ray Allen's game-winning three-pointer with :42 left in overtime was just his third field goal. With 96-95 lead, Allen passed to Tony Allen for the clinching dunk. Paul Pierce paced the Celtics with 24 points before he fouled out in the fourth quarter. Rajon Rondo added 19 and nine assists. more ›
