The Bruins ended the 2010-2011 season with a win and began the 2011-2012 season with a 2-1 loss to Philadelphia last night. The evening was also a production of the team's coronation as Stanley Cup. A firetruck brought the Cup to the Garden through a gauntlet of uniformed police, firefighters, and soldiers. The players brought the Cup to the ice and raised the new banner with help from Bruins' legends like Bobby Orr, Derek Sanderson, and Milt Schmidt.

Bostonist won't accept the idea that the emotion from the banner raising overshadowed game one of 2011-2012. The team started strong as Milan Lucic, David Krejci, and Nathan Horton controlled the puck in the Flyers zone early. Brad Marchand scored first on plays by Tyler Seguin and Joe Corvo. That 1-0 lead lasted just about 10 minutes before Philly scored twice in the last minute of the first period for the winning margin. The Flyers outshot Boston 25-12 in the first two periods.

Tim Thomas had 27 saves.

Coach Claude Julien reminded his team that it's time to get to work:

"The bottles of champagne are empty, so it’s time to go home. I think that’s how we feel right now. We’ve had a great time with it this summer, we’ve had some great experiences, but right now, we basically would like to re-do this, and we know there’s a lot of work and a lot of things that have to come into play before that happens. We need to turn the page."
