It's been 15 years since the release of Speak Squeak Creak, Melt Banana's ineffable debut album, and the Japanese spazz-rock band has shown no signs of mellowing. For those who like their songs the way they like their sentences: short but convoluted. Performing with Captain Cutthroat and Exusamwa. Middle East Downstairs, 472 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 8 p.m. $14.

New Music

The NEC Jordan Winds mix things up this evening with a program that includes old standards— Bach and Mendelssohn—with brand new work. The program features Argentine composer Guillermo Klein's first work for wind ensemble, Solar Return Suite (2006), which merges Klein's jazz expertise with a new music sensibility. Conducted by William Drury. Jordan Hall, New England Conservatory, 30 Gainsborough St., 8 p.m. Free.

Latin Jazz

Berklee's Latin Culture Celebration 2009 continues this evening with a student ensemble performance that includes Latin jazz from Brazil, Cuba, and New York. Directed by Berklee prof. Rebecca Cline. Recital Hall 1W, Berklee College of Music, 1140 Boylston St., 5 p.m. Free.

Dancing, Queer Hipsters

JP is the unofficial neighborhood of the sizzling queer dance party, and tonight's Queer Collab presentation Abundance keeps the tradition alive. Tonight's DJs include Kingdom, NYC's DJ Dirty Jean, and San Francisco's DJ Ripley. Milky Way Lounge, 284 Amory St., Jamaica Plain, 9 p.m. Free.
