Globe, Beam Vs. Technology
That the crew at Universal Hub observed the square peg/round hole relationship to technology sometimes displayed by the Globe comes as no surprise here. In this case, the culprit is Alex Beam's Tuesday column. Bostonist remembers the Globe's odd use of an apparent Twitter-esque reporting style. And, don't forget they might think downloading music is a fad. (FYI, We know it's iPod and not I-POD.)
A summary of the balance of U-Hub's report on Alex Beam's flat earth old media defense is not required because their take is quite accurate. But, Bostonist thinks there was other big news in Beam's column. Two points:
- Microsoft Sidewalk - This Bostonist never heard of it. But, a city-specific website that adds "real estate listings, classified advertising, and consumer guides" to news content sounds familiar. We call it Boston.com
- National Enquirer - Unless our corner of the Internet is askew, it looks like he was bragging about the scoops reported by the National Enquirer. Beam wants to assert a degree of relativism between the Globe and the Enquirer? If Beam has to do that then he just fell on his sword. No offense intended, Enquirer. We never thought the Globe viewed you as an equal.
