Chlotrudis Awards to Be Held at the Brattle

chlotrudis-don-tracy.JPGThe Chlotrudis Awards kick off at 5:00 pm tomorrow, Sunday, March 18, at the Brattle Theatre. Tickets are only $20. How is that price for an awards show honoring movies that were better than most of what got nominated at the Oscars?

Oscars, Schmoscars. Boston has the Chlotrudis Society for Independent Film, which is holding its awards ceremony Sunday, March 18th, at the Brattle Theatre. (By the way, "Chlotrudis" came from combining the names of two cats - "Chloe" and "Gertrudis" - and not from a nickname for a certain private part.)

All the standard moviemaking awards will be handed out, including the Body of Work Award, which will go to Canadian director and actor Don McKellar. McKellar satirized the apocalypse with Last Night and fame with Childstar. He also won a Tony award for co-writing The Drowsy Chaperone.

He is currently working with this year's other winner of the Body of Work Award, Tracy Wright, who starred in Me and You and Everyone We Know. McKellar and Wright, who are a real-life couple, are starring in Monkey Warfare. The movie is about two ex-revolutionaries who find their lives disrupted by a young woman. Our Austinist cohorts interviewed McKellar about the project, which screened at South by Southwest.

In the other awards, Chlotrudis is giving much love to Inland Empire. David Lynch's latest received five nominations. Other best-movie nominees include Cache, Duck Season, Half Nelson, Shortbus, and Sorry, Haters.

However, the most inspired Chlotrudis award of all will go to a "Hidden Treasure," a movie that grossed under $250,000. The nominees include 51 Birch Street, The Aura, The Intruder, Iron Island, and Night of Truth. But Bostonist's favorite in the "Hidden Treasure" race is Mutual Appreciation, directed by local filmmaker Andrew Bujalski.
