  • Gubernatorial Candidates Debate

Image by hmmlargeart from photos tagged "Bostonist" on Flickr. The first Massachusetts gubernatorial argument discussion debate took place last night. Bostonist was bored watching it. Green-Rainbow candidate Jill Stein, who was largely ignored by the boys, Gov. Deval Patrick, Republican Charles Baker, and independent Timothy Cahill, rightly described the exchanges as bickering. Baker responded to Stein with "I don’t think this is bickering." He bickered about whether or not there was bickering. Baker tried...

  • Sports Redux: Sox Closing in on Fourth

Image from Wikipedia. So much for needing Clay Buchholz on short rest. So much for a lot of things. Even when it was a 2-0 Sox lead early in last night's game, Don and Jerry seemed more inclined to talk about some couple they kept showing in the stands than anything happened on the field. (The crack Bostonist research team learned that they were contestants from a TV show called The Bachelorette. The crack...

Coffee shops compete at a high level. That explains why there are so many Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts in the Hub. Can they ever come together, ever, for a good cause? Yes. And it also might be good for business. Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts joined with Tim Hortons in April to try to create a sustainable container. That's an environmentally sound coffee cup to us. In 2010, styrofoam is headed for replacement once a...

  • UMass Amherst Geologist: Space is Cooler Than Sushi

NASA Image from a Mars Rover. The Boston Globe recently described University of Massachusetts-Amherst as a place stuck between what it is and what it wants to be. Resources are limited, facilities are lacking, and home grown students are going to exotic places like Connecticut for the education the Amherst campus can't provide. The school countered negative press by trying to build the world's largest sushi roll. Nice. We think the school should prop...

  • Sports Redux: PawSox 12, Rays 5

Photo by flickr user shoothead. When we looked at the lineup set for Monday night's game between the down-and-almost-out Red Sox and the see-you-in-October Rays, we felt badly for those who'd plunked down cash for tickets. Sure, seeing Rocco Baldelli back at Fenway was going to be special, but a lineup chock full of rookies against a hot AL East team? That's just cruel and unusual punishment for the fans - perhaps worse than...
